Budweiser Adapts Its Sexist Ads From The 50s And 60s To 2019

This year, in honor of International Women’s Day, Budweiser revisited three of their adverts from the ’50s and ’60s that they are not exactly proud of. The outdated ads portrayed objectified women in a subservient role to their husbands. But media and advertising was only a reflection of the world we lived in. Although today’s reality is not perfect, we’ve come a long way in the battle with gender stereotypes and Budweiser took an opportunity to celebrate this and course-correct its work by modernizing it and showcasing gender balance and women’s empowerment. To Be A Man: My Portrait Series Challenging The Concept of Toxic Masculinity

Toxic masculinity, a variation of masculinity, refers to the socially-constructed attitudes that describe the masculine gender role as violent, unemotional, sexually aggressive, and so forth. It restricts the kinds of emotions and characteristics that are socially acceptable for boys and men to express. Toxic masculinity is a variation of masculinity that has become the standard upon which the “real man” is defined but also by which ones masculinity can be challenged (The Good Men Project). This topic is no more relevant today than it has been in the past, the only difference is that now it is being discussed more openly.
